Care & Maintenance > Candles & Diffusers

DIFFUSERS
First is the diffuser sticks. At Casanhà, diffuser sticks are usually made from natural materials like rattan or reed. Over time, they can become clogged with essential oils and lose their natural scent diffusion ability. Therefore, when using them, you should pay attention to signs of reduced fragrance or discoloration of the sticks. When this happens, you should replace or buy new diffuser sticks to optimize the essential oil diffusion.
Essential oils should be diffused in well-ventilated areas where air flows freely, such as entrances, living rooms, or bathrooms. Avoid placing the diffuser near heat sources or directly under sunlight to prevent the oils from evaporating too quickly.
Taking care of your essential oil container is just as important as choosing the right fragrance. Clean the container regularly by gently hand washing it with warm soapy water. This helps keep the container fresh. Remember to wash it with a soft cloth or sponge to avoid scratching the container!
LET THE CANDLE BURN ACROSS THE ENTIRE SURFACE ON THE FIRST USE
When lighting the candle for the first time, allow it to burn long enough so that the entire surface of the wax melts evenly. This prevents the formation of a wax ring around the edge of the candle jar that never melts, which can shorten the candle’s lifespan.
CLEAN THE WAX SURFACE REGULARLY
After burning the candle a few times, you may notice soot, debris, or dust accumulating on the wax surface. Use a dry tissue or tweezers to remove these to avoid fingerprints or marks that can affect the appearance of the wax.
TRIM THE WICK AFTER USE
To ensure even burning, the wick length is important. Trim the wick to about 0.75 cm above the wax surface to prevent the wick from being too short and falling into the melted wax or getting blackened from previous burns.
EXTINGUISH THE CANDLE SAFELY
Properly putting out the candle after use is essential for safety and prolonging the candle’s life. If your candle has a lid, gently close the lid to gradually extinguish the flame. If there is no lid, use a candle snuffer to put out the flame. If blowing out the candle, do so gently to avoid splashing hot wax, which can cause burns or damage surfaces.
You can also use tweezers to dip the wick into the melted wax and then straighten it up again for the next use.
DO NOT BURN THE CANDLE UNTIL ALL THE WAX IS GONE
Avoid burning the candle until the wax is completely used up, as this can damage the container. It’s best to stop burning when about 1 cm of wax remains at the bottom. You can then reuse the container as a vase or storage jar.
To clean leftover wax in the container, pour hot water in and let it sit. The remaining wax will float to the surface, making it easy to remove and clean for reuse.
STORE CANDLES IN A COOL, SHADED, AND WELL-VENTILATED PLACE
Keep candles in a cool, draft-free area away from direct sunlight to preserve their scent, color, and even burning. Avoid placing candles directly on furniture surfaces to prevent heat damage; use trays or mats for the best results.
